License Management System (LMS)

Requirements for Initial Licensure (from DPH Rule 511-9-2-.17):

Requirements for EMS Instructor/EMS I/C Licensure Renewal

Does not include psychomotor exams or administrative functions within a Program

*Maintaining NREMT certification is required for any Instructor/ Coordinator licensed after the 2020 Rule change. This does not apply to instructors licensed prior to 2020.

Clarification

 All instructors MUST be licensed at the appropriate level to coordinate/teach an approved course.  Persons not licensed at the appropriate level must be monitored by a Licensed EMS Instructor or EMS I/C at the appropriate level while teaching.

 

(1) See accepted Instructional Techniques Courses and EMS Instructional Preparation Curriculums within the EMS Education Policies listed on this page. Must be completed within the previous 3 years.

(2) For Instructor/Coordinator candidates licensed as an EMT, AEMT or Paramedic, candidate must have current NREMT at the provider level. Current EMT-Intermediates must have current NREMT EMT Certification. Current Cardiac Technicians must have current NREMT EMT Certification. Candidates who hold a non-EMS healthcare provider license (RN, PA, MD, DO, etc.) must have passed the NREMT assessment exam for the Instructor/Coordinator level being sought within the previous year.

(3) An Associate Degree or higher from an academic institution that is accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. The degree may be in any major.

  • Internship for EMS Instructor/Coordinator Candidates

    Required Portfolio (must be submitted through LMS):

    • For each day:
    • Download this pdf file. EMS/Instructor/Coordinator Internship Log Sheet
      • Update each day
         
    • Final Evaluation:
    • Upgrade from EMS instructor to any I/C level
      • Must complete the entire internship
         
    • ​​​​​​​Upgrade from I/C EMT to I/C AEMT
      • ​​​​​​​Must complete a minimum of 4 hours of internship (OEMST will determine specific objectives)
         
    • Upgrade from I/C EMT or I/C AEMT to I/C Paramedic
      • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Must complete a minimum of 4 hours of internship covering the CoAEMSP objectives​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
         
    • Instructors licensed in other state
      • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure equivalency
      • ​​​​​​​Must complete a minimum of 10 hours of internship covering the Georgia specific aspects of course administration​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

    • ​​​​​​​Lapsed Instructors (this includes any I/C or equivalent that has let their license lapse for any period of time)
      • ​​​​​​​Must complete 10 hours of internship covering the Georgia specific aspects of course administration
